Parental Participation

The Children & Young People's Strategic Partnership (CYPSP) brings together a range of agencies to improve the lives of children and young people in Northern Ireland.

Parenting NI are commissioned by the Health & Social Care Board (HSCB) to deliver the CYPSP Parental Participation Project.

Parental Participation Project areas of work

We carry out direct engagement with parents in order to ensure that parents have a voice in planning support and services in their local area. We ask parents for their views in a number of ways, either through focus groups, online surveys or one to one questionnaires.

We offer Engaging Effectively with Parents training which raises awareness of the importance of parental involvement, explores barriers to participation and ways to engage parents more effectively. The project has also developed a Parental Participation Guide to support organisations to take steps to engage with parents using models of best practice.

Developing relationships with those working with parents is an important part of the project. Our Parental Participation Officers attend events and activities with in a range of settings, such as schools & community groups, to help them strengthen their services and ensure they are parent friendly.

We embrace digital technologies both to gather parents views and to keep them informed about services for their family. The project uses the website and social media to showcase the work of the project, sharing news and information on events, activities, programmes and training. We also produce a quarterly newsletter to raise awareness of the project and highlight key achievements.
