Parenting UR Teen

The teenage years are anxious and difficult for parents but support is at hand which could result in you having a stronger relationship with your children.  When it comes to parenting teens today, you can never have too much guidance or support and that is exactly what Parenting NI is offering in its ‘Parenting Ur Teen’ Programme .

The ‘Parenting Ur Teen’ Programme is ideal for parents of young people aged 12 –18 years and cover issues such as handling conflict, communication skills, problem solving and understanding the links between feelings and behaviours.  Jackie Valentine, Director of Parenting Education explains that, ‘Being a parent can present concerns through each stage of your child’s development and often just as parents feel they have gained a level of independence along come different worries with the teenage years’.

Parenting in a Diverse Society

This 4 week course focuses on how parents can promote their children's tolerance and understanding in today's culturally diverse society. Through looking at the differing cultural attitudes and some of the current legislation to parenting, parents should have a better understanding of how best to support their children within a multicultural community.

Promoting Independence

How do you strike the balance between keeping children and young people safe and allowing independence? This course is designed for parents of 9-11 yr olds. Many children of this age group are very susceptible to influences within their own community such as alcohol and drug misuse, peer pressure and unhealthy behaviours. Parents will be helped to have a greater understanding of how their children become socially responsible young adults.

Stepping Up

The course deals with the specific issues that living in a stepfamily can present. This programme aims to encourage communication and strengthen relationships where there has not been biological bonding. We will explore the benefits of parenting together, the importance of every member's input and the ever-changing dynamics in the new family unit.
